Baptism is one of the two sacraments (the other one being the Lord’s Supper) that Jesus Christ left with the Church. A sacrament is a practice whereby the grace and promise of God is confirmed again through visual means to the believers who are present. Baptism then is a practice whereby a believer is immersed into water and rise up again after that.
When Jesus met his disciples after his resurrection, he said this: “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20)
As disciples of Christ, we are commanded to be baptised as an expression of our obedience to Christ. At Subi Church, we perform baptisms every other month during the weekend worship services. It is always a great encouragement to the church family as we gather to witness baptisms, because they remind us of the great Gospel promise of our triune God.
